Audience Research

As a way to determine characteristics and create a target audience, I put together a google form and asked a group of people to fill it out. I made sure to obtain consent from the participants before including any the data.

The majority of the responses came from females aged 17-18. When asked whether they preferred a music video that featured a narrative or was performance based, the result came to a 50/50. There was a range of different music tastes, ranging from R&B/Soul to Indie to Pop and to Rock. Some of the most favoured artists were as follows:
  • Gorillaz
  • Arctic Monkeys
  • Melanie Martinez
  • Beabadoobee
  • Bruno Major
  • Chase Atlantic
  • the internet
  • Eminem
  • DPR Live
When questioned about their dislikes of Love songs, the majority of participants came to the conclusion that Love songs often appear to be too cliché. Some stated that they are rather predictable and repetitive/lacking in the way of representations.

When asked what they would like to see more often in music videos for love songs, the results came out quite similar. Some wanted to see more heartbreak or sad endings. Some opted for more interracial relationships, as well as more inclusion of the LGBT+ community. Finally, some would have liked to see different types of love represented in love songs and music videos alike - not just romantic but platonic, paternal, maternal, etc.
