Website research and analysis
Codes and Conventions of an effective website:
- Unique but Clear layout. If its too complicated, the audience would not be able to navigate it, but that doesn't mean it has to be vague or boring.
- Social Media and other links to the artist's content.
- Consistency with branding - each page features the logo of a company to implement into the audience's mind.
- Having a certain colour palette.
Website number 1: Mother Mother
www.mothermothersite.com
Genre: Indie Rock
The homepage is of a basic design. The main cover image ties to the concept of the newest album, INSIDE, which is conveniently linked below it. The red theme throughout the website allows to show the group as part of the 'dark side', since this colour is often linked to blood and violence. These dark connotations would help to introduce the band as being serious which is an important part of rock icon reputations. The layout would appeal to the viewer as it directly gives an example of their work, allowing for an introduction to the group. As well as the links to the newest album, their social medias are also linked at the top of the page, allowing for an easy access. By including these links it engages the audience to participate with the band and give responses to their music. However, it also allows for new members of the audience to get to know the artists. A mailing list application is present on the centre screen. By doing this, the audience will be notified of any upcoming music, which allows for encouraged streaming. In turn, this would lead to a cheap form of marketing as the fans would most likely post on social media about their excitement, leading to a range of new audiences to be informed. The tour dates allow for a direct booking. This is convenient for the viewer as it allows for them to buy tickets without the worry of them being counterfeit, as some sights often are scams. On the top right hand corner, there are tabs which lead the page's focus up and down the website in order to show you the location of the topic on the main page.
Website number 2: BTS
https://ibighit.com/bts/eng/
Genre: Kpop, Pop, Rock, R&B
Off from the main homepage, the website features a profile of the boy group. Here, we get a sense of the concept from the album influencing the layout once again, as the summer theme remains prominent across the page. The text included gives a brief knowledge of the achievements and history of the 7 member boy group. The images help to directly introduce the members as a visual piece, offering information on ages and names if clicked on. The website represents the group as a positive and bubbly force, which is accurate in terms of the morals and creative ambitions that they boys have. Due to the interactivity of the website, it could be seen as confusing as it is something that is not indicated and rather is left to be discovered. Though exciting, this could be something that might lead the website visitor to leave the website. The space and layout is somewhat difficult to navigate at times which could also be influenced by the bright colour scheme as though it brings attention, it could also be a distraction.
Website 3: Taylor Swift
https://www.taylorswift.com/
Genre: Country music, Pop, Rock, folk
At first glance, Taylor Swift's homepage is highly aesthetically pleasing. The colour palette of the first frame entirely corresponds with the name and theme of the album that is being advertised. The font colour and size is aimed to attract attention, this can be seen in the large capital letters. Italics are also used in order to accentuate certain phrases in the text, as seen by 'Handwritten letters' - giving the impression that this is something important that should not be missed. The subtle countryside aesthetic pays homage to her album RED as this ad is promoting the unreleased content from that album. The use of the phrase 'Never seen before' aims to gain attraction from the audience as it presents the products as a unique artefact.
